Cleveland, Ohio’s, Pale Hollow effortlessly combines elements of roots-rock folk with the restless urgency of a rustbelt garage band. Their hook filled songs are modern, melodic and catchy, yet anchored by the solid rock and pop traditions of the 60’s and 70’s. Each band member brings a unique element to the mix, resulting in an alchemy of sound and style that is sure to please fans of the folk/ rock/ power-pop genre.
Inspired by the posh blues of Nick Drake and the woodsy jangle of Gram Parsons era Byrds, ex Jericho Turnpike bassist, Michael Allen, bought an acoustic guitar and started writing songs to perform in local coffee houses around Cleveland. Armed with a batch of demos, he went to Detroit to record an album with producer Al Sutton (Kid Rock, Detroit Cobras). The resulting record was a shimmering blend of Alt-Country/ Folk-Pop, with shades of British Invasion thrown in for color. With comparisons to The Kinks, R.E.M and Donovan, the self-titled release, Pale Hollow, has since gained the praise of critics and fans alike. Allen, however, needed a band to help bring this music to a live audience.
Back in Cleveland, singer/guitarist Todd Thurman (Alien Fashion Show, The Stereo Workers Union) and drummer Nick Perry (Paranoid Lovesick, The Stereo Workers Union) were busy in Thurman’s attic bashing out their own version of the blissful power pop most associated with the likes of Alex Chilton and Teenage Fanclub. Thurman, a singer/songwriter in his own right, and Perry were looking for players to round out their musical vision. When they came across Allen’s music on Myspace they noticed that he hadn’t listed any bandmates. As fate would have it, these two musical entities were brought together, and now, with bassist Derek Poindexter (The Waynes), are beginning to make their presence known within the music scene at large. With a music video in post-production, Pale Hollow is poised to becoming a musical force that can’t be ignored.
